As previously announced, the Weedsport Central School District will undergo some staffing changes over the next month. The change is due to the upcoming retirement of Chuck Roach, current Director of Operations and Technology Infrastructure. Current principal Brett Fingland will assume the duties and responsibilities of Director of Operations, and the District will welcome a new principal to Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School. The District is excited to introduce you to Mrs. Sherri Monell, who will assume her new role in Weedsport Central School District on February 24, 2022 following the completion of her time at Waterloo Central School District.
Currently, Mrs. Monell is the Skoi-Yase Primary School Principal in Waterloo. Previously, she worked at the Waterloo Central School District Office as the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and taught special education at the elementary level in Waterloo. Throughout her nineteen years with the Waterloo Central School District, Mrs. Monell has led various work at the district and building levels, including writing policies and procedures, creating systems and processes to increase student success, and making strong connections with families and students. Through these educational experiences, Mrs. Monell has developed the educational leadership skills that she is looking forward to applying at Weedsport Junior-Senior High School.
“We are fortunate to be hiring a quality educator with a broad, experiential background,” said Superintendent of Schools, Shaun A. O’Connor. “It is with great anticipation that she will serve our educational community in a distinguished fashion.”
On a personal note, Mrs. Monell currently lives in Weedsport with her husband, Dan, two children, Maddy and Jayden, and dog, Ruby. Her children are students at the Weedsport Central School District. Mrs. Monell and her husband are graduates of Weedsport. Mrs. Monell enjoys reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. She is an avid fan of Weedsport sports and looks forward to attending more games to support the school teams. Mrs. Monell also enjoys music performances and is excited to see students perform at future concerts and musicals.
Mrs. Monell looks forward to coming home and supporting the future of her community. Making connections with families, students, and staff is of the utmost importance to her and she is excited to build these connections. She believes that all students can achieve academic success at high levels.
“I know that students succeed when they are surrounded by a team of supporters, including school personnel and family members,” said Mrs. Monell. “I am eager to work with these teams in the interest of increasing student success.”
Please welcome Mrs. Monell to the Weedsport educational community and the community at large as she joins the team at Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School in striving to uphold the tradition of academic excellence.
