On May 17, Weedsport Central School District voters approved the district’s $21,272,020 budget for the 2022-23 school year, with 261 yes votes to 123 no votes, elected one Board of Education member, and approved the purchase of one new school bus with 298 yes votes to 85 no votes.
Voters also approved a spending increase for the Weedsport Public Library (286 yes, 99 no).
The passed budget has a spending increase of $848,398 and will result in a tax levy increase of 1.79 percent. While creating the 2022-23 budget, the district’s goal was to strengthen programming for students through BOCES-offered programs, implement a new school-to-home communication system, and restore staffing positions that had not been accounted for since the 2019-20 school year.
“The wellbeing of our students and families come first, and we are so thankful the Weedsport community supports the district in setting up our students and staff for success,” said Superintendent Shaun O’Connor.
Voters also elected one Board of Education member. Incumbent Renee Munn received 333 votes and will serve a five-year term.
