Our Elementary Student Government Organization (ESGO) will be back in action this year led by Mrs. Beerman and Mrs. Birchard. In the past, ESGO has sponsored activities that help create a fun school environment, as well as raised money for our school and Weedsport community.
Some of the activities ESGO has sponsored in the past are: CandyGrams for Valentine’s Day, Board Game Palooza, Open Gyms, canned food drives and the primary Easter Egg Hunt, plus many more. ESGO hopes to continue with some of these activities, as well as come up with some fresh ideas for this year.
Ahead of election day, the 4th and 5th grade hallway was filled with election posters with creative lettering and catchy slogans. There were 23 fourth graders and 12 fifth graders who decided to throw their hats into the ring in hopes of being elected as their classroom representative.
To be considered, students had to complete an application with an essay that stated why they would be a good classroom representative. They also created two posters and gave a speech to the class. Elections were held Friday, October 15th. Two students from each 4th grade homeroom and three students from each 5th grade homeroom were elected (12 total students).
ESGO presents many opportunities for students to use and express many of the Positivity Project Character Traits. Candidates have shown creativity with the design of their campaign posters and ideas for ESGO. They have shown bravery by taking a chance and standing in front of their peers to give speeches. They will show leadership and open mindedness when they listen to others’ thoughts and opinions and lead different activities that the ESGO will sponsor.
The ESGO is looking forward to a wonderful school year with this new group of members! Find some pictures from election day below.
