The New York State Public High School Athletic Association recently recognized four sports teams from the Weedsport Central School District as scholar-athlete teams for the fall sports season. The teams include football, field hockey, and boys’ and girls’ cross country.
This is the first time that all of the teams were recognized in a season in more than four years.
To receive scholar-athlete team recognition, the team’s average GPA for 75 percent of the roster must be greater than or equal to 90. Players whose GPA is 90 or higher also receive scholar athlete pins.
“We’re very proud of the work all of these students have put in both in the classroom and on the field,” said athletic director Zac Young.
“This recognition is an example of their dedication.”
Here are the qualifying averages of the teams:
- Boys Cross Country: 91.875 (15 on roster, needed 11 to qualify)
- Girls Cross Country: 92.978 (10 on roster, needed eight to qualify)
- Field Hockey: 95.8 (16 on roster, needed 12 to qualify)
- Football: 90.845 (35 on roster, needed 26 to qualify)
