Suzie Nemec had big goals for her basketball career from the time she was in
middle school. Her hard work over the years has paid off. Suzie ended her career on the court at Weedsport as the 2nd all-time leading scorer in Girls Basketball History, securing 1,405 points.
“It feels great to be up on the banner, no matter how many points I ended up having,” Suzie said. “I hit freshman year and I realized it’s not about scoring, it’s about having a great team by your side to help you win games.”
Suzie said a record-breaking game in Little Falls helped open her eyes to how close she was to breaking 1,000 points. As she kept up her scoring, she became more confident, but she’s not downplaying the extra work she put in to get to this accomplishment.
“I played AAU year-round, went to all open gyms, went 100% at every practice, stayed to shoot more, anything to get me to be a better player, and the 1,000 points came along the way,” Suzie said.
Suzie praised Weedsport for helping develop her skills and technique throughout her basketball career so far.
“I have had some great coaches to help me along the way. Everyone in Weedsport has just been so supportive, and I thank my coaches, teammates, family and fans for everything they have done in my high school career,” she said.
Suzie said she’s excited to start a new chapter. She plans to play basketball at Baldwin Wallace University next season.
