February 2024 Student-Athletes of the Month
Varsity Boys’ Basketball: Lucio wrapped up a 4 year varsity career in outstanding fashion. He led the team in scoring, assists, steals, and minutes played. He was named by league coaches as OHSL Patriot National Player of the Year. His play making, point guard play and leadership will be greatly missed!
Varsity Girls’ Basketball: In February, Mallory led the team in rebounds and free throws made per game, and was second in points, assists, and three-pointers made per game. As a leader in her third year on the team, she used her experience to bring a positive and competitive energy to the program every day.
Varsity Swimming & Diving: Swimming and Diving would like to recognize both Jasmine Nguyen and Avery Tomandl as Athletes of the month for February. Both of these young ladies achieved amazing things during their swim season this year, competing alongside boys in a sport they love. Avery qualified at the boys’ standard in the 100 Backstroke this season which was a goal she had for herself, she dropped that 100 backstroke time further at sectionals. Jasmine set a goal in the 500 Free which she achieved during the season of breaking 7 minutes. At sectionals, she dropped even more time earning a 12th place finish. Both girls swam the 100 Fly at the sectional meet and both scored points for the team at sectionals helping with a solid second place finish overall.
Varsity Bowling:
Keegan Montreal: Keegan was a stalwart on the bowling team. She did a great job giving the team consistency and keeping a positive attitude throughout her time in bowling. She was a great role model for the younger athletes.
Jordan Guy: In the month of February, Jordan bowled very well having the second highest average on the team during sectionals. He averaged 180 over the course of 6 games and finished in 4th place in the league doubles tournament.
Volleyball: Volleyball Student Athlete of the Month is Emma Stephens. As the teams primary libero, Emma led the team in digs for the season with a total of 191, which is the second most in a single season in Weedsport program history. She also finished her career at 3rd all time in career digs. She registered 102 total assists filling in as the setter for several matches throughout the season. Finally, Emma also led the team in aces with a total of 53 on the season thanks to her ability to control her serve placement.
