Weedsport Athletics: Taking a Look at Fall Varsity Teams’ Outlooks

With the fall sports season officially underway, here is a little preview of what Weedsport fans can expect from the varsity teams this fall:

Volleyball:

The Varsity Volleyball team is excited for the upcoming season with lots of change. The team will face new challenges after making the move to the fall season and has a lot of experience from last year’s squad to replace after losing eight seniors. Captain Megan House brings the most experience returning in her role as starting setter. Returning varsity players also include the lone senior on the team Felicity Ladue and junior Lilly Kime. There are plenty of other juniors who are new to varsity this year, but eager to build on the success of last season.

Field Hockey:

The 2024 Weedsport Field Hockey team is looking to build on our accomplishments from last season. With 12 returning Varsity players and solid newcomers, we look to be contenders for the Patriot League title and make a deeper run into sectionals. The first full season on our home turf should accentuate our team speed. We are also characterized by aggressiveness and tenacity on defense. In addition, we have excellent leadership exhibited by our upperclassmen. Come watch us play!

Football:

The Weedsport Football team is coming off a 6-3 season with an appearance in the semi finals of the Section 3 tournament.  This year’s team will feature a strong ground attack with junior Mason Kocur and senior Nico Giacolone leading the way.  The defense returns several starters, including junior Trevor Moon.  The squad had a well attended summer program and is looking to turn that hard work into W’s this fall.  The team’s first home game will be Friday 9/20 vs. West Canada Valley.  Come out and cheer on your Wolverines!

Cross Country Boys:

The boys’ varsity cross country running team will have a few veterans on the small team. Leading the Wolverines will be Jay Lowery, Sam Lowery, and Dexter Barnhart. Senior Tayson Kepple should help the Wolverines with their pursuit of being their best this season. We are faced with stiff competition this year, but striving to have a rewarding year, be competitive in the league, and be at our best at the end of the season.

Cross Country Girls:

The girls’ varsity cross country team will have two seniors, Olivia Snodgrass and Kayla Clark. These two seniors should lead the team throughout the season with their leadership and performance. Olivia Snodgrass is a state meet contender who has trained diligently in the preseason. The girls will strive to be their best at each meet and have a rewarding season.
