The Weedsport varsity football team captured its second consecutive Sectional title this year (and capped off an undefeated season) and earned recognition from the Board of Education at its regular meeting in December.

Weedsport also finished tied for first place with Oakfield-Alabama in the overall 8-man state football rankings.

Weedsport finished 8-0 on the season and defeated West Canada Valley, 68-44, in the Section III 8-man championship at the Carrier Dome. Senior Aidan Mabbett lead the team in rushing with 728 yards.

“The Board wanted to recognize the entire team for it’s fantastic accomplishment this year and for all the hard work the players put in,” said superintendent Shaun O’Connor.

“Weedsport athletics have always been a point of pride in this community and we are proud of the success of our athletes.”
