Character Education Counts at Weedsport Elementary
Every school in the United States is required to place an emphasis on character education to reinforce the positive qualities parents teach at home. Character Education at Weedsport Elementary centers on the “Positivity Project,” which empowers the youth of the country to build strong relationships by recognizing the character strengths in themselves and others.
As part of the program, there are 24 scientifically validated character strengths that students are taught. They are not just skills or behaviors, but rather, concepts that school leaders want to become part of everyone.
“We are connected to each other by seeing our personal character strengths and looking at others’ strengths. The Positivity Project does not have strict guidelines, so teachers can adjust their instruction for each class. The goal is for our students to internalize these traits.” – Principal Timothy Cowin Jr.
