Weedsport Elementary School teamed up with the Cayuga County Heath Department and the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee this week for “Walk Your Child to School” day.

On Wednesday, October 12, parents and guardians were encouraged walk their students to school. For families who lived too far, parking was available at the nearby First United Methodist Church, and a walking guard was set up to help everyone safely head towards the school.

Families were given a Bingo sheet in advanced, and asked to help their student(s) pick out signs and roadway aids along the way. The goal was to teach students how to safely navigate their way on foot.

Once they arrived, students were asked to hand in their Bingo sheets in exchange for a prize. Keychains and healthy snacks were handed out.
