The District has determined that due to the amount of staff members under quarantine orders by the county Health Department the following are the UPDATED return-to-school plans for in-person instruction:
- Wednesday, Nov. 18 (A Day): Grades 8 and 9 attend (7TH GRADE IS REMOTE)
- Thursday, Nov. 19 (B Day): Grades 5 & 6 and Grades 10, 11, and 12 attend
- Friday, Nov. 20 (A Day): Grades 5 & 6 and Grades 7, 8, and 9 attend
The only change is that 7th grade students will return to school on Friday NOT Wednesday. Students in grades PreK-4 at the Weedsport Elementary School will continue with in-person instruction as scheduled.
Update from Nov. 9
Dear Weedsport Families,
The District has been working with the Cayuga County Health Department regarding the three students at the Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School who have tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of the county’s investigation, 106 students and 18 staff members are required to quarantine for 14 days. The county Health Department is advancing towards the final stages of contacting the students and staff members who are required to quarantine.
The District has determined that our best course of action is to cancel all in-person instruction and have all students in grades 5-12 continue to take part in 100 percent remote instruction. This is not an easy decision to make, but due to the amount of staff members under quarantine orders by the county Health Department and out of an abundance of caution, this is the best course of action for our Jr.-Sr. High School at this time.
The following are the anticipated return-to-school plans for in-person instruction:
- Wednesday, Nov. 18 (A Day): Grades 7, 8, and 9 attend
- Thursday, Nov. 19 (B Day): Grades 5 & 6 and Grades 10, 11, and 12 attend
- Friday, Nov. 20 (A Day): Grades 5 & 6 and Grades 7, 8, and 9 attend
This closure of in-person instruction only impacts Weedsport Jr.-Sr. High School. Students in grades PreK-4 at the Weedsport Elementary School will continue with in-person instruction as scheduled.
Meals will be available to any student in grades 5-12 from Thursday, Nov. 12 through and including Wednesday, Nov. 18. They can be picked up at the Jr.-Sr. High School Cafeteria entrance between 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This closure warrants a reminder for all of us. It is critical for students, staff, and families to continue to adhere to the most important COVID safety protocols at all times, whether at school or outside of school:
- Social distancing of at least six feet;
- Wearing an appropriate face covering; and
- Washing your hands frequently and using hand sanitizer; and
- Closely monitoring any COVID-like symptoms.
The decisions each one of us makes can have ripple effects on the entire school community. The health and safety of all students and staff – and the continuity of education that we are all working so hard to provide — depend on your vigilance and on your patience to see this public health challenge through to its end.
We will continue to work closely with the Cayuga County Health Department and we will follow their guidance on how to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
