Congratulations to Mariah Quigley and Troy Brown for their outstanding performances at the New York State Track and Field Championships! The meet was held at Cicero-North Syracuse High School on June 11th.
Senior Mariah Quigley placed second in the 100 meter high hurdles in Division 2. The Time of 15.49 seconds captured a 26 year-old school record previously held by track and field state competitor Carrie Gilchrist. Gilchrist, the former 100m high hurdles record holder, is also a Weedsport alumna and Sports Hall of Fame athlete.
Junior Troy Brown placed seventh in Division 2 high jump, with a jump of six feet. That is four inches shy of his best jump, which was performed at the Section 3 Open State Qualifier on June 2nd. It runs in the family! The current Weedsport high jump record of six feet, six inches is held by his uncle, Eric Quinn. Larry Quinn, Troy’s Grandfather, is a Sports Hall of Fame and state track and field athlete who hailed from Union Springs Central School.
