Weedsport Central School District Set to Auction Off Vintage Warriors Memorabilia Soon

The Weedsport Central School District – now the Wolverines – is ready to Auction off items from its previous mascot era: the Warriors.
The district has stored countless Warriors items in its basement, and instead of throwing them away, it will give prideful alumni and community members the chance to obtain a Warriors item for their own collection – whether it ends up being a rug they use for a welcome mat, or a jersey they hang up in their basement.
Weedsport Recreation Director Patrick Piascik is leading this initiative, and is working with a website called Auctions International to help run the auction, item by item. Auctions could go live as soon as Friday, April 10. The first item that will be for sale will be Warriors rugs (pictured above).
“The initial launch will feature various sizes of Warriors-branded rugs that were used throughout our buildings. From there, some of the next items will include vinyl chairs that were used for basketball and volleyball contests. Further down the line we will have things like sports jerseys.”
Piascik and the district did research for months to figure out the best way to execute such an auction.
“ Auctions International is an online auction house that is based in Upstate New York,” he said. “We have worked with Auctions International before and are excited to continue our relationship with them. We will not be the first school district to partner with them to auction off merchandise after a state-mandated nickname/logo change.”
Once live, the auction will be able to be found on the district website, where it will feature an information page under the “Community” tab and the “Find It Fast” section of the homepage.
Piascik also noted this is something district leadership has been excited about, and working towards, for a while.
“We wanted to give the community, who feel very passionately and pridefully about the history of the Warriors nickname, a fair chance to acquire some of these items.”
He added that the Warriors auction serves three purposes:
- Allows an equal opportunity for people to acquire these items, rather than it being first-come-first-serve.
- Generates some additional funds to go toward things that will ultimately benefit WCS students and improve our district. The replacement of these items was not aided by New York State, so these funds can help to offset some of those costs to some extent.
- Allows our alumni and community members a chance to have some of these pieces of history that there is a strong connection to.
