Weedsport Central School District Scores Best Chronic Absenteeism Rate in Cayuga County

A recent data collection conducted by Syracuse dot com showed Weedsport Central School District has had the lowest chronic absenteeism rate in Cayuga County. The district was also 5th overall between Cayuga and Onondaga counties.
Anyway you slice it, the data supports the district’s mission that aims to “ensure every student learns, thrives, and is prepared to make meaningful contributions to society,” and its vision which aspires “to be a premier and innovative school district that inspires excellence in academics, character, and community, preparing every student for personal and professional success.”
Superintendent Gregory M. Stone was excited about the accomplishment, and said it is one that reflects the hard work happening every day from the district’s leadership, and its students.
“Achieving a 12.7% chronic absenteeism rate, the lowest in our county, is a milestone that reflects the heart of our district,” he said. “This downward trend is the result of the quiet, daily work our staff does to check in on kids, build real trust with parents, and ensure our schools are places where students actually want to be.”
“We’ve moved the needle,” Stone continued, “because our leadership and staff haven't treated attendance as a paperwork hurdle, but as a relationship priority. This success isn’t an anomaly; it’s a reflection of a culture that prioritizes student connection. The real win is knowing that more of our students are in their seats, engaged, supported, and learning every single day. This work has no finish line, and we are committed to keeping this momentum going for our families and our community.”
